What are BRCGS Global Standards?
BRCGS is a leading brand and consumer protection organisation, used by over 29,000 certified suppliers in over 130 countries.
BRCGS Food Safety is the number one global market-leading Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) scheme. The Standard provides a framework to manage product safety, integrity, legality and quality, and the operational controls for these criteria in the food and food ingredient manufacturing, processing and packing industries. Issue 9 is due for release 1 August 2022.
Certification to the BRCGS Plant-Based standard enables sites to respond to the evolving demands of their customers. A plant-based audit can be combined with any GFSI benchmarked standard (or Global Markets Program), providing potential cost savings.
The GFSI benchmarked BRCGS Storage & Distribution Standard provides guidance for an important and complex part of the supply chain which closes the gap between manufacturers, producers, and retailers, food services, and consumers.
The Standard was revised in November 2020 and Issue 4 includes additional modules for Wholesale, Contracted services, Cross Docking and E-commerce.
The Global Standard for Packaging Materials reflects the latest thinking in product safety, and has now attained usage worldwide, not only by food packaging producers, but by producers of packaging for all applications at all levels of the supply chain. The Standard can be used by any manufacturer producing packaging materials for all types of products – from food to consumer products – at all levels: primary, secondary and tertiary.
Agents and Brokers (non-manufacturing traders) who buy, sell or facilitate the trade of products, provide a critical link in the movement and trade of products, and influence supplier product safety and quality standards, as well as being responsible for maintaining an effective chain of traceability.
The Global Standard for Agents and Brokers has been developed to provide a framework for managing product safety, quality and legality for these non-manufacturing businesses in the food and packaging industries and covers issues as diverse as senior management commitment and continual improvement, and hazard and risk assessment.
The BRCGS Gluten Free Certification Programme (GFCP) is unique from all other Gluten Free certifications, as it certifies your business, facility and its gluten-free manufacturing controls and is recognised by major celiac associations globally.
Certified sites can offer their customers trademarks to put on their product’s packaging as proof of certification and verification of being safe for those with a gluten intolerance or allergies. The programme can be attached to any GFSI-benchmarked food safety standard and the audits may be conducted as standalone or in combination with a GFSI certification audit.
In small sites, BRCGS START! recognises the development of food safety systems where the full requirements of the BRCGS Food Safety Standard may not always be practical or add value and enables audits and certification against two levels of requirements: basic and intermediate.
In addition to the core Global Standard for Food Safety BRCGS has developed a range of additional modules that can be added to the normal audit process:
– GlobalG.A.P. Chain of Custody
– Meat Supply Chain
– Food Safety Modernisation Act (FSMA)
– Food Safety Culture Excellence
